The recent report from the EAT Lancet Commission on Healthy Diets From Sustainable Food Systems makes an excellent case for substantial dietary shifts needed to support both human and environmental health. Integrative practitioners are in an ideal position to help patients make diet and lifestyle changes that could greatly benefit planetary health. The key is how. While education is essential, it is the practical and personalized implementation of these critical shifts that is the secret sauce to enabling sustainable and meaningful change. This presentation will not only present compelling research behind the necessity for a more plant-based diet, but also provide flexible ways that patients can easily begin to put healthier strategies into play without needing to be all or nothing. With a focus on whole foods, this session will provide realistic and creative ideas for alternatives to animal protein and sugary foods aimed at meeting a variety of dietary preferences. The session will also highlight behavioral change counseling techniques to improve a patient’s motivation to change.

This presentation was recorded at the 2020 Integrative Healthcare Symposium Annual Conference.
