Arthritis RecoveryWhy Healing the Gut Matters and How to Do It

presented by Susan Blum, MD, MPH

Studies show that Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Spondylarthritis (SpA) are associated with altered gut flora and dysbiosis and that dysbiosis and leaky gut can cause systemic inflammation. Therefore, if different probiotic species are active in immune modulation and improvement in arthritis, can we create an approach to treating arthritis that is focused on gut repair using a Functional Medicine approach?  Arthritis recovery is possible. This recorded presentation focuses on understanding the relationship between the microbiome, leaky gut, and systemic inflammation, specifically all forms of arthritis including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and osteoarthritis. Emphasis is placed on the most recent understanding of the microbiome, different approaches for improving gut flora, and how this relates to joint inflammation. Finally, Dr. Blum reviews a 4 step program for reversing arthritis in a format that can be used in the clinical setting on Monday morning.

Recorded: February 2016
