Integrative Healthcare Symposium celebrates 15 years

The Integrative Healthcare Symposium celebrated its 15th edition today at the beginning of its 2019 conference in New York City.

Attendees from all over the world gathered at the Hilton Midtown, including many five-, ten-, and fifteen-year alumni, who were recognized today among 1,500 registrants during the opening remarks.

“It is amazing to see how much we have grown together over the years,” said Liz Plizga, vice president of the Integrative Healthcare Symposium. “We have such a strong alumni network and these connections and collaborations are what this symposium was built upon.”

The symposium started as an idea, Plizga said, and has evolved and grown from a grassroots effort through commitment and dedication to integrative healthcare by leaders such as Mark Hyman, MD, David Perlmutter, MD, FACN, ABIHM, and Woodson Merrell, MD, conference chair, all of whom spoke during the inagural symposium in 2005.

The event serves as an opportunity for likeminded integrative professionals to learn from one another, share best practices, and discuss clinical takeaways. It is the largest integrative medicine conference on the east coast, with one of the largest exhibit halls featuring top companies in the field. Renowned speakers and influential leaders have participated in the conference program, including visionaries and leaders who have been recognized over the years.

However, Plizga said, the attendees are what make the Integrative Healthcare Symposium truly special.

“As leaders in your fields, you reached into your own networks, connected, and collaborated with each other across all disciplines,” Plizga said. “There is so much gratitude for everyone in this audience. Thank you for creating this community."
