Unmanaged stress often leads to physical and emotional symptoms which are correlated with medical errors, absenteeism and turnover within the hospital setting. While stress is not inherently a bad thing, it becomes an issue when it is long-term, chronic, sustained, and completely burdensome. Healthcare providers are not immune to stress and it is important to recognize the signs of stress and address the stressors, risk factors and related behaviors of healthcare providers with regard to insufficient stress management skills.
