The Evolution of Integrative Medicine with Kathie Swift

By Integrative Practitioner Staff Kathie Swift, MS, RDN, LDN, FAND, EBQ, joins Integrative Practitioner Content Specialist Avery St. Onge to discuss the evolution of integrative medicine after being honored as a pioneer in the field at the Integrative Healthcare Symposium’s 20th anniversary celebration. Author, educator, and registered dietitian/nutritionist, Kathie graduated from Arizona State University with a Master of Science in Nutrition and expanded her conventional dietetics background with extensive training in functional medicine. Kathie is the co-founder of the Integrative and Functional Nutrition Academy, an online functional nutrition training program for health care professionals. She pioneered innovative nutrition programs at Canyon Ranch Health Resorts, Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, and Dr. Mark Hyman’s UltraWellness Center. Kathie also directed the Center for Mind Body Medicine’s highly acclaimed “Food As Medicine” program for more than 20 years. Kathie is a contributing author for the medical textbooks, Integrative Gastroenterology, Integrative Women’s Health, Krause and Mahan’s Food & The Nutrition Care Process and Integrative and Functional Medical Nutrition Therapy. She is a scientific reviewer for Integrative Medicine: A Clinician’s Journal.  Kathie co-authored two books on digestive health: The Swift Diet and The Inside Tract: Your Good Gut Guide to Great Digestive Health. She is certified in Mind Body Medicine skills and evidence-based Qigong (EBQ) and integrates these healing modalities in her teaching and clinical practice.  An avid swimmer, Kathie also enjoys traveling, hiking, kayaking and exploring natural habitats with her 5 grandchildren and her spirited golden doodle, Dottie Rose.
