Meditation, Relaxation Technique, Spiritual Experiencepresented by Richard Schaub, PhD

Using the context of two patients with Stage 4 cancer, Dr. Schaub describes and demonstrates meditative methods that led to spiritual experiences in the office. These experiences positively affected the patients’ moods, sense of meaning, and capacity for resilience. This recorded presentation will guide participants through two methods and Dr. Schaub offers suggestions for bringing this meditative/new meaning work into the clinic and office.

The placebo literature is looking at new meaning as the variable that causes a brain/mind shift and leads to the physiological “placebo” response. Spiritual experience is another brain/mind/body shift that can cause new meaning – and may access the same pathways as the placebo effect.

Recorded: February 2014
