The loss of diversity and lack of biodiversity in the global ecology, soil health, and human microbiome has a direct relationship to our overall human health. Excessively sterile environments, diets low in plant fiber, repeated exposure to antibiotics, and aging all decrease microbial diversity and a lack of microbial species richness and phylogenetic diversity has been associated with poor health.
