Vaccine Autism Debate Goes To Court

A 2008 CNN article ["Vaccine-Autism Question Divides Parents, Scientists"1] describes the vaccine autism debate and the battle being waged between families of children with autism against the medical establishment over the link between vaccines and autism. As the basis of their conclusion that there is no link, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, and the Institute of Medicine cite five large studies finding no link between autism and the preservative thimerosal and 14 large studies finding no link between the MMR vaccine and autism. The families disagree with those conclusions and are taking their cases to court. 4,900 claims are currently before a special federal court suing the government through the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.
