History is one of the most important aspects of any profession. Florence Nightingale (1820-1910), the philosophical founder of modern nursing, was a mystic, visionary, healer, scientist, practitioner, politician, environmentalist, and reformer. Her contributions to healthcare theory, research, statistics, public health, and global health even today are foundational and inspirational.

Nightingale foresaw complex national and global problems and challenges and even anticipated the 17 United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ‘Health’ is the central common thread running through all 17 UN SDGs and they point directly back to the work Nightingale had achieved in her time. These SDGs are clearly related to Integrative Nurse Coaching and interprofessional collaboration and goals for health and wellbeing. Nightingale’s legacy provides a model for effective local-to-global voices calling for and demonstrating the healing, leadership, and global activism required to address the challenges in these troubled times—local to global.

This presentation was recorded at the 2018 Integrative Healthcare Symposium Annual Conference.
