The University of New Mexico's Center For Life (CFL) is an Integrative and Inter-Cultural Center for Prevention and Wellness, treating people with a wide range of health issues, using a vast array of ancient and modern techniques. This is a state of the art Integrative and Intercultural center, emphasizing prevention and wellness along with disease management.
The Center for Life was inaugurated in 2007, as part of the expansion of the Section of Integrative Medicine (2001-2007) at the UNM Health Sciences Center. Integrative Medicine is healing-oriented medicine that takes account of the whole person (mind, body, and spirit), including all aspects of lifestyle. It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship and makes use of all appropriate therapies, both conventional and complementary. CFL receives support from the Department of Internal Medicine, the Health Sciences Center, the New Mexico State Legislature, and individual donors.
Arti Prasad MD, Professor of Internal Medicine, is CFL's Founder and Executive Director. She is also the founding Section Chief of Integrative Medicine at UNM's Health Science Center. This section was created to develop a comprehensive primary health care system based on an integrative approach that combines allopathic medical care with Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) using the best current evidence.
CFL provides clinical service, medical education, research, and community service. Clinical services include: Integrative Medicine, Acupuncture, Pain Relief, Mind and Body, and Other Unique Offerings.

Under the direction of Dr. Arti Prasad, the fourth annual Symposium of Integrative Medicine Professionals in the Land of Enchantment (SIMPLE), a state-of-the-art symposium on Integrative Medicine, is slated for October 13-15, 2008, at the Sweeny Convention Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Learn about the philosophy of, and advances in, integrative medicine from world-renowned experts Drs. Larry Dossey, Tieraona Lowdog, Lee Lipsenthal, Vasant Lad, and others innovators in the field.
